Let’s Start Planning My Trip

1. Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses

Found in 1974 by a group of peasants who dug well near the royal tomb, the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses then was revealed to the world. It was built by Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, to serve as his mausoleum. In 1975, a museum began to built and when it completed, visitors from other places came to here to appreciate this significant site. Life size terracotta figures of warriors and horses were master-crafted with uniquely different appearance and expressions. They are all arranged in battle formation.

The museum covers an area of 16,300 square meters, divided into three sections, which were numbered Pit 1, 2 and 3 respectively by order of discovery. No.1 Pit is the largest with columns of soldiers at the front and war chariots at the back. No. 2 Pit contained over a thousand warriors and 90 chariots of wood. And No.3 Pit looked like to be the command center of the armed forces.

2. Xian Ancient City Wall

Xian Ancient City Wall is the landmark and a must-see attraction in Xian which stretches round the old city. Built by Zhu Yuanzhang, the first Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, the city wall is the most complete city wall that has survived in China and one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. There is a rampart built every 120 meters on the 13.7-kilometer wall, which were aimed to defend against the enemy who want to climb up.

Since the wall is extremely strong and firm, the gates are the only ways to get in and get out of the city, which makes the construction of the gates become greatly important. There are totally 18 city gates around the city wall, but not all of them are open fro visitors. Visitors can ascend the wall from the South Gate, Small South Gate, East Gate, West Gate, North Gate and some small gate which will all lead you to tour the whole wall.

3. Bell Tower

Has been a symbol of Xi’an since the city was established, the Bell Tower marks the geographical center of the ancient capital. It was built by the order of Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of Ming Dynasty to suppress the “spirit of dragons”. The tower is the largest and the best-retained one of its kind in China, which enjoys a height of 36 meters and a length of 35.5 meters at each side. The grey bricks, dark green tiles, gold roof and gilded painting make the tower a dramatic and beautiful masterpiece architecture.

The bell originally hung in the tower was made in the Jingyuan Period of the Tang Dynasty and was moved to the Xi’an Forest of Stone Tablets Museum in 1953. The bell hung in the tower now is a replica of Jingyuan Bell with a height of 2.45 meters and a weight of 6.5 tons.
