1. Notre Dame Cathedral

The Notre Dame Cathedral, also called Red Church for the red bricks, is the most famous landmark in Ho Chi Minh City standing in a a quiet corner of bustling downtown. It was built by French colonist in the late 1880s and it was given the name of Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica by Vatican. The red bricks used to built it were imported from France and the statue of the Virgin Mary standing in front of the Cathedral was made in Rome from Italian marble.

It serves as a religious place where masses are held every Sunday. From Monday to Saturday, there will be English-speaking staff giving out the tourists information from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in order to allow tourists get a better understanding of the Cathedral.

2. Central Post Office

Located right across the way from Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh is a beautifully preserved architecture of French colonial times. It was designed by Gustave Elffel, a well-known engineer who also designed the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower and was built between 1886 and 1891.

The looping arches, intricately designed marble floors and the antiquated telephone boxes inside the post office which can all draw your attentions. There is a statue of Ho Chi Minh standing in the end of the hall and overlooking the crowds of foreign tourists. It is a fascinating thing for tourists that it is still in service now. So you are encourage to send a letter or postcard from here to experience the days before email and mobile phones.

3. Cu Chi Tunnels

About 70 miles from Ho Chi Minh City, the Cu Chi Tunnels are one of the top attractions in Saigon and Vietnam especially for non-Vietnamese tourists. They were first built in 1948 when the Viet Cong were fighting the French. Then, they were expanded and improved to 200 miles.

People will watch a short video about how this system works and then follow the route to have a look at this amazing defense works. Visitors can find meeting rooms, hospitals, accommodation, operating theater, mess halls and other equipment, which just like a mini city. Other interesting activities such as to fire an M16 assault rifle and have a taste to the similar type of meals that the fights had when they were in the tunnels.

4. Ben Thanh Market

Located in downtown Ho Chi Minh City, Ben Thanh Market in District 1 is the most central and bustling market. It is big enough for you to find all kinds of goods here. Eaten things like vegetables, dried fruit, meats, spices, scorpions in alcohol, sweets, tobacco and so on. Used things like clothing, one-day suits, wristwatches, bling-tastic jewelry, hardware and etc. And other branded goods, Vietnamese art and other souvenirs which will be your must-buy things in Vietnam.

When night falls, you will easily feel hungry for the restaurant around the market will open their doors and making the vibrant street full with the unique fragrance of Vietnam cuisine. You have a wide choice of food including vegetarian noodles, fresh seafood, crispy rice pancakes and steamed cakes. If you stay in downtown, you are suggested to take a walk to this market, because it’s very centrally located.
