Visit the Nyaung Oo Market where locals buy and sell produce. Continue on to the Shwezigon Pagoda, the largest pagoda in Bagan painted with real gold.
Then enjoy a Horse Cart Ride to the small village of Taung Phi for a view of a teak monastery Continue by horse cart around temples and winding roads as the sun makes it's way to the sky's edge casting curious shadows from the temples across the plain. This morning start your scenic drive to Mount Popa, an extinct volcano with its golden shrines. Situated 50 km southeast of Bagan, this solitary peak showcases the Popa Taungkalat shrine, the favored home of Myanmar’s most powerful “Nats” (local spirits), statues of which can be found at its base. These spirits were once so important to the country's early Kings that it was essential for them to consult the Nats before commencing their reign. The shrine is located at the top of the mountain, and if you have the energy, take off your shoes and socks to climb to the top (well worth the climb!) Along the way are a multitude of monkeys expecting treat!
Along the way, stop by a local village to learn about local culture and lifestyle. Then enjoy lunch at a hill resort. On the way back visit a palm sugar workshop, where the harvested nectar from local trees is cooked into the sugar cubes we see in teashops today.

Ordinarily an average of 45 mins of flight duration is expected. However, the entire experience will last about 2 1/2 hours. On landing, our fully trained Myanmar ground crew will pack the balloon whilst passengers enjoy a glass or two of celebratory champagne.
Balloons over Bagan is a private Myanmar company that is committed to the preservation of Bagan and its environment. A contribution from each flight will be donated to community programmes that directly benefit the local population.

After your breakfast around 8am and take a boat trip to Inle Lake (second largest lake in Myanmar). The Intha’s lives are centered on the lake - they live in stilted houses, grow produce such as tomatoes, melons, and papayas in a unique floating garden, and eat fish as a staple.
You will visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the most highly revered monastery in the Inle Lake area. Discover the traditional handicrafts silk weaving on wooden handlooms and a blacksmith shop.
Then, continue our boat ride to Nga Phe Chaung monastery, one of the oldest monasteries on the lake. The Buddha statues are more than 200 years old. On the lake, you can see traditional fishing methods by using the leg rowing technique. We proceed to the floating garden - Kyun-Hmyaw, which was built-up from strips of water hyacinth and mud, dredged from the lake bed, which breaks down into a rich humus; it take 50 years to produce a layer of 1m thick. Relax and enjoy spectacular sunset views over Inle Lake before returning to hotel.

Enjoy free time in the morning until transfer to airport for onward flight to Mandalay. Upon you arrive in Mandalay, your local guide will meet you in the airport and escort you to hotel.
After a rest in the hotel, you will visit Mahamuni Image where you will see local people pray and stick gold paper on the Buddha for blessing. You can also try to make your wish and donate money (buy) for gold paper to stick the gold paper on the statue (only man allowed to stick the gold). On the way to the Mahamuni Image, you will visit a gold paper factory to see how people made the gold leaf. Visit the Shwenandaw Monastery which means ‘Golden Palace Monastery” and was built in 19th century and well known for its teak carving of Buddhist myths. then Visit Mandalay Palace The scale of King Mindon’s ambition is obvious on first sight of the vast Mandalay Palace and its grounds. This walled citadel, surrounded by a large moat, is situated in the middle of the city, to the north of downtown; it certainly looks imposing from the outside, but unfortunately, along with much of Mandalay, it was devastated by bombing in the Second World War. Visit the Kuthodaw Pagoda which is a Buddhist stupa that contains the world’s largest book of Buddhism.

Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Mandalay at 7:30-8am. From here, you will travel to Mingun. Mingun is home to the world’s largest untracked ringing bell, the largest brick base Pathodawgyi Padoda and Myatheindan Pagoda with a distinctive architectural style modelled after the mythical Mount Meru (Myinmo taung). You will then continue to Sagaing (the ancient capital of Shan and Myanmar Kingdoms) and visit Sunn Oo Ponya Shin on the tranquil Sagaing Hill. Also drop by at a local silverware cottage industry if time allows. Enjoy lunch in at a local restaurant in Sagaing before leaving for Inwa (also known as Ava), a former royal capital of Myanmar Kingdom on the confluence of the Ayeyarwaddy River and Myitnge River.
After crossing the Myitnge River by a small ferry boat, we will take a horse cart to explore the ruins of the old royal capital including the watchtower, the 27m tall leaning tower of the old royal palace, Maha Aungmye Bonzan monastery (also known as Me Nu Oak Kyaung) built of brick in traditional style with elaborated stucco ornamentations that looks like carvings and the Bargaya monastery, a splendid teak wood monastery with wood curving. Your last destination today is the Amarapura. It was the royal capital of Myanmar twice, from 1783 to 1821 and 1842 to 1859, during the Konbaung era before finally being superseded by Mandalay. Heading to U Bein Bridge to explore the local way of life and enjoy the sunset before returning to your hotel.

In the morning, you'll go to visit the most prominent temples in Chiang Mai. Start with Wat Phra Singh which houses the famous Phra Singh Buddha image. It features Lanna art throughout and illustrates many famous Buddhist stories.
Continue on to Wat Chedi Luang, which once contained the Emerald Buddha. The temple is partially in ruins due to an earthquake in the 1500s.
Then stop at Wat Chiang Man which is the oldest temple in Chiang Mai and also houses one of Thailand's greatest treasures: the Crystal Buddha(usually only able to be seen on Sundays and certain festival dates).
Then continue to Wat Suan Dok, which houses many of the remains of generations of the old Chiang Mai Royal Family. Finally, visit Wat Jet Yot – this peaceful temple is surrounded by green and was built in the Mahabodhi style from India to house the Eighth World Buddhist Council in 1453. Return to the hotel to relax around noon.

This morning after breakfast you’ll drive through the alpine environment near Doi Inthanon on your way to the mountain peak. As you ascend toward the 8,514-foot (2,595-meter) summit of the country’s highest point, you’ll enjoy views of dwarf rhododendron groves, evergreen forests, and more than 400 species of birds like Eurasian woodcocks that call the area home. When you arrive at the top, enjoy the cool temperatures and stop by the Air Force Radar Station, where the stupa dedicated to King Intha wichayanon (the last king of Chiang Mai) is located.
Proceed to Phra Mahathat Napha Methanidon and Phra Mahathat Naphaphon Phumisiri, two twin pagodas constructed in honor of the ‘fifth cycle’ birthdays of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. Continue to a nearby village of the Karen tribe where you’ll stop for an included lunch at a local restaurant. Finish the day with a short hike to the Wachirathan Waterfall, and, if time permits, a stop in the town of Chom Thong. You’ll be back at your hotel in Chiang Mai by the early evening.

This is a chance to observe rural life along the Mekong and witness the daily life of ethnic minorities and their talented craftsmanship. Lunch is served on board in a buffet style with a main course from Laos’ main culinary delights as well as a choice of fish and meat dishes. The river cruise arrives at Mekong Smile Cruise near Pakbeng before sunset, giving plenty of time to refresh, enjoy the scenery of the river and admire the surrounding nature. Mornings are special times at Mekong Riverside Lodge with stunning sights of the peaceful neighboring mountains, often shrouded in mist, while a full breakfast is served on the expansive teak terrace.
Departure time: 8 am. Early in the morning you can visit the Pakbeng market (optional). After breakfast we depart at 8 am to journey down the Mekong River. The first stop is at Ban Baw where you will observe the traditional whisky village, weaving village, handicrafts and textiles. A buffet lunch is served on board. The boat stops again to visit Pak Ou caves. There are two caves, ‘Tham Ting’ and ‘Tham Phoum.’ The caves contain thousands of Buddha images. The Mekong cruise arrives at Luang Prabang, a UNESCO world heritage city, before sunset and we have the van to pick you up at the main pier to Luang Prabang. We had such a truly amazing time in Cambodia and Thailand with the private tour Indochina Tours planned for us..we decided we needed to go to Vietnam next year with the help of Indochina tours.
Ivy Wu who worked with me endlessly to plan the itinerary and especially Helen Chhour, the in-country contact in Cambodia, were simply stellar in their customer service and knowledge of the country and so willing to make changes due to some last minute health issues of my husband, changing our tours to private when needed to accomodate his problems walking and securing better seating and kid glove service on our flights. Simply superb.
We loved the tour guides and drivers in Cambodia and Thailand (especially Chen Suon in Cambodia...he was wonderful and kind in dealing with Eric's issues, but also warm and friendly and knowledgable in so many ways).
Just stellar all round.


One of the best organized tours we have done as a group ! Well thought out, great sightseeing, good English speaking guides, good clean restaurants and good food even for some of us vegetarians.


We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. Indochina were excellent from start to finish. Sreypov was able to put together the perfect itinerary for us - responding and adapting very quickly during the planning stages.
Kea gave us great support in organising everything during the lead up to the trip. Our guides and drivers in Ho Chi Minh, the Mekong, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap were all excellent. We had the perfect balance of culture, history, beach time and great food.


My granddaughter and I traveled to Siem Reep, Cambodia for 3 nights on a private tour. My agents were Ms. Maiky and Ms. Kea. Ms. Maiky recommended some great options and listened to what I wanted. Our hotel was wonderful, the Koulen Central Hotel and we had wonderful breakfasts there included. We witnessed the grandeur of sunrise at Angkor Wat, multiple temples there, a countryside jeep tour, traveled to Tonle Sap Lake and visited a floating village. We inadvertently witnessed a local funeral and two weddings. We received an amazing massage after a full tour day in the nicest spa I have ever been to. Incredibly tranquil and soothing. Our guide, Mr. Socheat, knew everything about the places we visited and answered all our questions. It was a very full itinerary and that is what I asked for.
We then traveled to Thailand for 7 nights. The first 3 nights were in Bangkok at the Amara Bangkok Hotel, very modern and efficient property, also with a full buffet breakfast included. Our guide there was Ms. Ketsara and she was wonderful; very down to earth, lighthearted, and flexible with our itinerary. She came up with things to do that weren't on the original itinerary that we really enjoyed. We took a private motorboat tour on the Chao Praya River and passed temples along the way. Our favorite visit was to the Grand Palace and riding by tuk-tuk to the famous Reclining Buddha. One morning we drove to the train market and the floating market, both highly recommended.
We then flew to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand which had a completely different vibe and some intense spiritual energy. Our hotel there was the Boddhi Serene Boutique Hotel, which, after Bangkok felt like it could use a fresh coat of paint and deep clean, but it was a beautiful, peaceful property. We were there when the 7.7 earthquake hit nearby in Myanmar. The hotel staff was calm and efficient. It was an intense experience and we're grateful we were there at the time instead of almost anywhere else. We spent our days walking into town and checking out the sites.
We then flew to Phuket and stayed at the Burasari Phuket Resort. I didn't schedule full days in either Chiang Mai or Phuket as we were eager for some down time. We did do a full day tour by speedboat to Phi Phi Island and other smaller islands in the area. We snorkeled and swam and it was pleasant but a little too touristy for me. My 20-year-old granddaughter would have loved another day in Phuket and Bangkok.
All our hotels were good and our guides were good. The agents I booked with responded efficiently to any questions I had. I recommend travel with Indo-China Tours. They know the area and respond well to all requests.


I worked with Ivy at Indochina Tour to create a custom itinerary. I sent her the specific sights that I was particularly interested in and ones that I wanted to leave out and she curated that to a trip that we loved.
The guides and hotels were great. The one criticism I had with Indochina Tour is that after we booked the trip, the operations person that was responsible for the tour logistics would not respond to my emails and texts for a long time. This deficiency in communication was frustrating.
