Built in 1782, Grand Palace was the royal residence for 150 years and home of the Thai King, the Royal Court and the administrative seat of government till the turn of twentieth century. Within the palace complex, there are several impressive buildings like Wat Phra Kaew or the temple of the Emerald Buddha. It is considered as one of the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand. Wat Pho or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha is an easy ten-minute walk away from the Grand Palace. It is a must-go destination for any first-time visitor in Bangkok and definitely worth your time to look around carefully. It is the oldest temple in Bangkok built by King Rama I. The giant reclining Buddha measures 15 meters tall, 46 meters long and covered in gold leaf.

Wat Arun, locally known as Wat Chaeng or the Temple of the Dawn, is situated on the west bank of the Chao Phreya River. Its design is totally different from other temples in Bangkok, which decorated with tiny pieces of coloured glass and Chinese porcelain. It is envisioned by King Taksin in 1768 and was extended during the reign of Rama III between 1824 and 1851.

To get there, you need to take a river boat from one side of the river to another for only 3 baht from Sapphan Taksin boat pier. Make sure you dress modestly when visiting the Wat Arun, which means arms and legs are covered and no sloppy attire. As one of the most beautiful temples in Thailand, it is best viewed at dawn.

This historic garden-enclosed compound is the former home of Jim Thompson, a self-made American entrepreneur and art collector. After he settling in Bangkok after the WWII, he found the handmade silk in Thailand was something worth to promote to west countries. He sent samples to fashion houses in Milan, London and Paris, which helped the silk to became world famous. Thus, he was awarded the Order of the White Elephant, a significant honor awarded to foreigners who have made contributions to Thailand.

After his unsearchable disappearance into the Malaysian jungle, his legacy began and his house turned into museum for later generations to discern his life, business and art collection, as well as the history of the city and the Thai silk industry.
