The weather in Ho Chi Minh city can be a little unpredictable, but September is generally comfortable. Rainfall is sporadic, usually passing quickly. The temperature stays between 24°c and 30°c.
The Mekong Delta sees heavy rains in September. It can be disruptive to travel, but the rising water level in rivers and fields makes for some beautiful scenes. September is a good time to see the floating markets and river life.
Southern Vietnam coastal destinations like Nha Trang, Mui Ne, and the Vietnam islands paradise of Phu Quoc, have excellent beach weather in September. The seas are calm and inviting for swimmers. Temperatures average 24° to 30°c.

On the 9th day of the 8th lunar month, September 18th, 2026, Do Son Town in Hai Phong holds the Buffalo Fighting Festival. It has been held annually for over 1,000 years by the Do Son people. Buffalo are brought to the stadium in Do Son Town, where they fight. It is taken very seriously by the people there, and the owner of the winning bull receives a 40 million dong price, around 1,600 USD.

A big advantage of visiting Vietnam in September is that you can avoid the summer tourist crowds and the busy season that starts in a few months. It is a low season for tourists, so you don't have to struggle with crowded beaches and packed attractions.
