The Luang Prabang Elephant Camp is a sanctuary for the beautiful elephant and a perfect place where tourists who haven’t got contacted with these giant mammals before can have a close contact with them.
Laos is known are the land of a million elephants. But due to the deforestation, some ecological problems and human’s disturbance, there is no long elephants in the wild in Laos. Due to the fact of that, many organizations have done something to give them a better life, such as creating an Elephant Village in Luang Prabang for them. The mission is simple and clear: Give a new home for rescued elephants and create a safe haven for ex-working elephants and their children. And provide elephant experience for tourists so they can support themselves and neighboring villages.
A trip to Laos is incomplete without a tour to Elephant Camp in Luang Prabang. Tourists come to the camp to experience some exciting activities to enrich their knowledge of the elephants in Laos. The activities include taking a trek through the jungles on an elephant, bathing the elephant in the Nam Kahn River, learning to a temporary mahout with the basic mahout training course, feeding the elephants at your leisure time and so on. In reality, this is better way for them to lead a life than working in the forest and doing heavy laboring.
