Teresita & Enrique's 29-Day Journey Across Southeast Asia
A couple’s four-country journey, with new experiences and warm memories.
Teresita and Enrique wanted more than a short introduction to Indochina region. Traveling from Chile, they decided to spend nearly a month exploring Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, with comfortable hotels and time to recover after the long flight.
Elena helped build the Indochina journey around their Bangkok return flights. Pattaya gave them a gentle start, followed by Bangkok and northern Thailand, a route through Vietnam, time in Siem Reap and a final week in Laos. The arrangements combined group excursions, private visits and free time rather than one group traveling together throughout.
After returning home, Teresita wrote warmly about their time in the region. Their five-star Tripadvisor review thanked Elena and Kea and described a varied itinerary full of new adventures. Their photographs bring the Laos part of the journey especially close, from a boat outing on the Mekong to the gardens of Buddha Park.

How Their Journey Came Together
Teresita’s first enquiry was for a two-week trip in a small group. As she and Enrique reviewed the options, they decided to stay longer and asked for some beach time too. Elena added Pattaya at the beginning so they could rest after the flight from Chile, then linked the four-country route to their return flights from Bangkok.
Teresita also wanted to understand which days would be shared and which would be private. Elena explained the different arrangements, including the changing guides and shared pickups on Thailand’s local group tours. The plan brought these excursions together with private visits, free time and an onward journey through Luang Prabang and Vientiane.
What Elena Worked Around
- A restful start in Pattaya after the long flight from Chile
- A four-country route linked to return flights from Bangkok
- A mix of local group excursions and private visits
- Clear expectations about shared pickups and changing guides
- Temple scheduling around Khmer New Year in Siem Reap
TeresitaDuring planning“It is a good idea to start at Pattaya Beach so we can rest after the long flight from Chile.”
“We can start with free time in Pattaya so you can rest and adjust to the time zone. I’ll also make clear which days are shared and which are private, so you know what to expect as you move between countries.”
ElenaSenior Travel ConsultantThe Journey They Took
The journey began with two nights in Pattaya before returning to Bangkok. City temples, canal trips and an excursion combining the floating market with cycling came before the flight north to Chiang Mai.
Vietnam followed, from Hanoi and an overnight bay cruise to Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. Cambodia added Siem Reap’s temples and local activities. Before travel, Kea advised a change to the temple schedule around Khmer New Year to reduce time caught in holiday traffic.
The final part of the journey took them through Laos. Luang Prabang combined temples, the Mekong and Kuang Si Waterfall, with farm and cooking activities in the itinerary. A train connected them to Vientiane before the return flight to Bangkok and an airport-hotel night ahead of departure.

Experiences That Shaped Their Route
We brought together walks in northern Thailand, an overnight cruise in Vietnam, Siem Reap’s temples and time on the Mekong in Laos. Farm visits and cooking activities gave Teresita and Enrique opportunities to join in, alongside the city sightseeing and quieter time on the water.
THAILAND · CHIANG MAI REGION
A Day Beyond the City Temples
Northern Thailand added a day outdoors to a journey with plenty of temples and city visits. The Doi Inthanon excursion included the summit area, the twin pagodas and a two-hour nature walk, followed by waterfall stops.
It sat between a long Chiang Rai day trip and their onward flight to Hanoi. Together, these days gave the Thailand section more variety after the slower start in Pattaya and the Bangkok excursions.
VIETNAM · OVERNIGHT BAY CRUISE
A Night on the Water
Between Hanoi and Hoi An, the plan made room for an overnight cruise. The couple would leave the city by road, board around midday and spend the night on the bay before continuing toward central Vietnam.
That overnight stay gave this part of the route a different pace from the city days. The next stage connected the cruise return with the flight to Da Nang and transfer to Hoi An, where My Son and the old town were on the itinerary.
CAMBODIA · SIEM REAP
Exploring Angkor Around Khmer New Year
Angkor’s temple visits were a central part of Teresita and Enrique’s stay in Siem Reap. Alongside the main temple complex, Banteay Srei added time to look closely at its red sandstone carvings, while a boat excursion on Tonle Sap brought them beyond the temples to the lake and its waterside villages.
Their visit coincided with Khmer New Year, so we brought the main temple touring forward to avoid the busiest holiday traffic and kept some time free during the celebrations. The Cambodia stay also made room for an elephant forest excursion and a countryside cooking class.
LAOS · LUANG PRABANG
Rice Farming and Kuang Si Waterfall
In Luang Prabang, we paired a morning at Living Land Farm with an afternoon at Kuang Si Waterfall. The shared farm activity introduced Teresita and Enrique to the work of growing rice, with opportunities to try parts of the process alongside the local team.
Kuang Si offered a change of pace after the farm. They could follow paths beside the tiered pools and cascades, with a visit to the nearby bear rescue sanctuary adding another stop before returning to town.
LAOS · LUANG PRABANG AND THE MEKONG
Along the Mekong to Pak Ou Caves
After exploring Luang Prabang’s temples, Teresita and Enrique continued onto the Mekong for a boat journey to Pak Ou Caves. Leaving town by water gave them time along the river before reaching the caves, where Buddha figures of different sizes fill the rock recesses.
We included Ban Xanghai along the way, adding a village stop to the afternoon. The river outing brought a different rhythm to their Luang Prabang stay, between the city’s temples and the following day’s bamboo weaving and cooking workshop.
LAOS · VIENTIANE
Buddha Park and the Temples of Vientiane
Teresita and Enrique traveled by train from Luang Prabang to Vientiane, where we arranged a private day exploring the capital. Buddha Park brought them among Buddhist and Hindu sculptures, while Pha That Luang offered a very different setting around its golden stupa.
The day also took in Patuxay, Wat Si Saket and the National Museum, giving their Laos stay time in both Luang Prabang and the capital. From Vientiane, they returned to Bangkok for a night near the airport before flying home to Chile.
What Teresita Shared After the Journey
“The itinerary was varied and full of new adventures.”
“Special thanks to Elena and Kea.”
A Varied Journey They Would Happily Book Again
In their five-star Tripadvisor review, the couple described an excellent experience across Southeast Asia and said they would happily use Indochina Tour again. They thanked Elena and Kea by name and praised an itinerary with plenty of variety and new adventures.
Teresita’s follow-up email was warm too. After returning to Chile, she wrote that they were very glad about their time in Chiang Mai and the other cities and countries they had visited.

The People Behind the Journey
Elena
Senior Travel Consultant
Elena worked through the route with Teresita as the trip grew from two weeks to nearly a month. She added the Pattaya start, explained the shared and private arrangements and connected the itinerary to the couple’s Bangkok return flights.
Kea
Operation Team
Kea coordinated the booking details and final travel information. Before departure, she advised the temple-schedule change for Khmer New Year and confirmed that replacement Hanoi accommodation and a cruise had been arranged in the same category.
Would a Journey Like This Suit You?
This route suits a couple who want about a month in Southeast Asia and are happy to combine local group excursions with selected private arrangements. It gives time to four countries, including several days in Laos rather than a quick final stop.
It is still a busy journey. The plan included seven regional flights, a train journey, an overnight cruise and several long excursion days. Shared outings can mean changing guides and extra pickups, so the balance between cost, company and flexibility matters when planning something similar.
A good fit if you...
- Have around four weeks for Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos
- Enjoy a mix of temples, city visits and time outdoors
- Are happy to join other travelers for some excursions
- Want comfortable accommodation and coordinated connections
We would adjust it if you...
- Prefer one private guide and vehicle for each destination
- Want fewer flights or fewer hotel changes
- Need shorter walking days or less time on boats
- Would like a longer beach stay or more free days
