Ben & Jayden’s Cambodia Adventure from Angkor to the Cardamoms
Two riders, a private Cambodia adventure and a five-star review.
Ben and Jayden came from New Zealand with a clear idea of the holiday they wanted: time on motorcycles, a route beyond the main sights and warm weather during the New Zealand winter.
The first enquiry was for a dirt-bike trip from Thailand to Cambodia. The route eventually became a private journey entirely within Cambodia, starting with Angkor and continuing through Battambang and the Cardamom Mountains to Phnom Penh. Srey Pov worked through Ben’s questions about the bikes, riding equipment and luggage, then kept the extra nights around their flights as rest days, just as he asked.
After the Cambodia motorbike journey, Ben gave the experience five stars. He praised the balance of temple visits, museums and off-road riding, and singled out Srey Pov and Lance for being easy to reach and quick to help.

How Their Journey Came Together
Ben and Jayden wanted a motorcycle adventure, initially from Thailand into Cambodia. When the requested border crossing was unavailable during planning, Srey Pov suggested a Cambodia-only route from Siem Reap through the Cardamom Mountains to Phnom Penh. She also answered Ben’s questions about the bikes, protective equipment and luggage.
Their flights allowed fifteen days in Cambodia, but Ben wanted the extra nights kept for rest. Srey Pov left two full days free in Siem Reap and another in Phnom Penh, with a flexible rest-or-ride day in Koh Kong. Angkor came before the motorcycle expedition, and Phnom Penh’s historical sights followed it.
What Srey Pov Worked Around
- A Cambodia-only alternative to the requested cross-border ride
- A private motorcycle route for two travelers
- Clear bike, protective equipment and luggage arrangements
- Extra nights kept free for rest around the riding program
- Angkor and Phnom Penh visits before and after the expedition
BenDuring planning“We will just use the additional days as rest days.”
“We can keep those extra days free. You’ll have time for Angkor before the motorcycle expedition and Phnom Penh afterward, without adding more tours to your rest days.”
Srey PovTravel ConsultantThe Journey They Took
Their Cambodia arrangements began in Siem Reap on 3 June. A private temple day brought together Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm and Angkor Wat, followed by two free days before collecting the bikes. One of their photos shows them with a guide beside Angkor Wat’s reflecting pool.
The motorcycle section began on 7 June. From Siem Reap, the route continued to Battambang and Veal Veng, then through the Cardamom region toward Koh Kong. Chi Phat, Sre Ambel and Kirirom formed the return route toward Phnom Penh, where the bike program ended on 14 June.
A city tour and a final free day completed their stay before departure on 17 June. Looking back, Ben described the itinerary as “perfectly balanced” and praised how smoothly the different parts came together.

Experiences That Shaped Their Route
Their photos show the journey moving from Angkor’s reflecting pool to red dirt tracks, open hills and narrow paths through pine trees. Riding was the reason Ben and Jayden chose this trip, and these are the scenes that bring that part of their Cambodia journey into view.
CAMBODIA · SIEM REAP
Angkor Before the Bikes
Ben and Jayden began with time at Angkor. In their photo beside the reflecting pool, they stand with a guide while Angkor Wat rises behind them. It is a relaxed moment before the motorcycle section of the trip.
Their private temple day also included Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm. Two free days followed in Siem Reap before the route continued toward Battambang on the bikes.
CAMBODIA · THE MOTORCYCLE ROUTE
Following the Red Dirt Tracks
One riding photo looks forward over a blue front mudguard toward the riders ahead. The red track is rough and deeply worn in places, with green hills stretching across the background.
This is the kind of riding Ben had asked about from the start. The itinerary linked Siem Reap with Battambang, then continued toward the Cardamom foothills before turning south. Traveling on the bikes made the roads between overnight stops a central part of the holiday.
CAMBODIA · THE MOTORCYCLE ROUTE
Out in the Open Hills
Another image catches the riders on a narrow dirt trail beneath a broad mountain ridge. The nearest bike carries soft bags, and the motorcycles and riding clothes show the dirt picked up along the way.
Before booking, Ben had asked about the motorcycles, protective equipment and how much luggage they could carry. Those details mattered on a journey that moved between hotels, a guesthouse and an ecolodge. Their photos show that traveling setup out on the trail, with the riders carrying bags on the bikes.
CAMBODIA · FOREST TRAILS
Riding Between the Pines
The trail narrows between tall pine trees, with bright grass on either side. In the photograph, the riders follow one another along the reddish path, their luggage secured behind them.
The planned route included Kirirom near the end of the motorcycle section, bringing pine-forest country into the journey before Phnom Penh. This image adds that quieter woodland setting to the open hills and wider dirt tracks seen in the other riding photos.
CAMBODIA · ON THE ROAD
Passing a Waterfall Beside the Road
The riding was not all on dirt. One photo shows the group on a paved road beside a small waterfall spilling down a green, rocky slope. More riders follow farther back around the bend.
The contrast belongs in this story too. The motorcycle route connected remote tracks with roads between towns, carrying them onward toward Phnom Penh. Ben later praised how the off-road adventure fitted alongside the temples and museums, describing the overall itinerary as perfectly balanced.
What Ben Said After the Journey
“Their professionalism gave us the freedom to simply enjoy the adventure.”
“I will certainly be back for more using Indochina.”
Flawless Cambodian Adventure
Ben gave the journey five stars on Tripadvisor. He praised the balance between the temple visits, museums and off-road motorcycle adventure, and described the accommodation as comfortable and well chosen for each stop.
His warmest comments were about Srey Pov and Lance. He found them easy to contact and quick to respond, with help available for the smaller details as well as the main arrangements. He also said the tour had been customized to their needs and that he would travel with Indochina Tour again.

Would a Journey Like This Suit You?
This route is worth considering if riding is a main reason for your trip and you also want time at Angkor and in Phnom Penh. The itinerary set aside fifteen days overall, with an eight-day motorcycle section and free days around it.
The riding plan was demanding, with travel stages of approximately 120–230 km and a mix of dirt, sand and forest tracks. Accommodation ranged from four-star city hotels to regional hotels, a guesthouse and an ecolodge. Packing also needed attention because a separate luggage vehicle was not included.
A good fit if you...
- Are comfortable with off-road motorcycle riding
- Want a private route for your own small group
- Enjoy rural roads and mountain scenery as much as the main sights
- Are comfortable with simpler accommodation in smaller places
- Want rest days around a substantial riding program
We would adjust it if you...
- Are new to dirt bikes or prefer shorter riding days
- Want a vehicle to carry larger bags
- Prefer more time in one region and fewer changes of accommodation
- Want to replace some riding with travel by car
