Cambodia, officially the Kingdom of Cambodia, is located in the southern portion of the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia. It bordered by Laos to the northeast, Vietnam to the east, Thailand to the northwest, and Gulf of Siam to the south.

It covers 181,035 square kilometers and has 20 provinces and 4 municipalities. The capital city of Cambodia is Phnom Penh, which located at the confluence of the Mekong River and Tonle Sap Lake. It is the political, economic, cultural and religious center of Cambodia. And the world-famous Angkor Wat is located 5.5 kilometers north of Siem Reap city

Laos, officially named as the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, is located at the heart of the Indochina Peninsula. Sharing the land borders with five countries, including China, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, Laos is the only landlocked county in Southeast Asia. To the northwest of Laos, are Myanmar and China, to the east is Vietnam, to the south is Cambodia and to the west is Thailand.

It covers 230,800 square kilometers of land 6,000 square kilometers of water, with 17 provinces and 1 municipality. The capital city of Laos is Vientianne, which located on the banks of the Mekong River near the border Thailand. And other large cities include Luang Prabang, Savannakhet, and Pakse.

The Mekong River, the lifeline of Laos, is the major corridor of transportation for goods and services. And Vientiane, the capital city of Laos, is located on the north shore of the middle reaches of the Mekong River valley near Thailand.

After running through Laos and Thailand, the Mekong River runs to the equatorial flood plains of Cambodia and Vietnam. As the main watercourse in Cambodia, the Mekong river is the longest river in Cambodia, which is about 500 kilometers’ long. The Mekong River forms the main water system network in Cambodia. And most rivers in Cambodia join into the Mekong river. The Tonle Sap River, flowing 155 kilometers, is the largest tributary of the Mekong River in Cambodia. The Tonle Sap river runs from the Tonle Sap Lake, from Northwest to southwest, and runs into the Mekong River near Phnom Penh. The main tributaries include the Cirio River on the left and the Sen Niger River and Chini River on the right. Near Phnom Penh, the Mekong River is roughly divided into two tributes, one is the anterior river, and another is the posterior river named Basake River. These parallel rivers flow southeast to southern Vietnam and finally go into the South China Sea.
