FAQs about Planning A Thailand Myanmar Tour

Is it safe to visit Thailand and Myanmar now?

Thailand is very safe for travelers. Big cities, small towns, beaches—all are open. You may see busy traffic in Bangkok, so we help with trusted drivers. Watch for pickpockets in markets, like in any big city.

Myanmar is safe at its major tourist destinations, including Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, and Inle Lake. However, certain regions are currently unsafe due to local difficulties. We exclusively take you to tranquil and open spaces.

Every day, we check the news and get safety updates. If something changes, we adjust the plan. We also provide health, water safety, and insect bite prevention information.

With us, you will travel smartly and safely. We're available 24/7 to help you stay calm and joyful on the road.

Can you enter Myanmar from Thailand?

Yes, you can. Thailand and Myanmar share physical boundaries as well as air routes.

The simplest route is by plane. You can take direct flights from Bangkok to Yangon or Mandalay. It takes approximately 1.5 hours. Flights are both safe and fast. We will book these for you in advance.

You can also travel by land. There are a few border crossings, such as Mae Sot-Myawaddy. However, land borders do not always close. It is subject to local rules.

Moreover, land travel is slower. Roads can be bumpy. Some border areas are not for tourists. That’s why we recommend flying for comfort and safety. We take care of your border papers and travel plans, so it’s easy.

When is the best time to visit Thailand and Myanmar?

The ideal time is between November and February. This is the dry, cool season. It’s not too hot, and the sky is clear. Ideal for walks, temple visits, and boat cruises.

March to May is very hot, especially in Myanmar. But it's also festival season. Songkran (Thai New Year) and Thingyan (Myanmar Water Festival) are fun and full of water!

From June to October is the rainy season. It rains more in Myanmar than in Thailand. But the rain doesn’t last all day. Nature is green, and there are fewer tourists. Prices are lower too.

We help plan your trip around the weather. If it’s hot, we do early morning tours. If it rains, we go to indoor places. No matter the month, we make it special and smooth for you.

What are must-see attractions in Thailand and Myanmar?

Thailand and Myanmar have numerous well-known tourism sites, including:

In Thailand:
Bangkok – Grand Palace, Buddhist temples, markets.
Chiang Mai – mountain temples and elephants.
Phuket/Krabi – pristine beaches and islands.
Ayutthaya – old ruins near Bangkok.

In Myanmar:
Yangon – Shwedagon Pagoda, street food.
Bagan – thousands of temples across the plains.
Inle Lake – floating gardens, stilt houses.
Mandalay – old royal city and monasteries.

We also take you to secret places: hill tribe villages, night markets, and countryside spots. Want to learn to cook Thai or Burmese food? We add that too.

Our tours mix famous sites with quiet gems. Travel your way—with history, culture, nature, and food. We make sure every place feels local and real.

Do I need a visa to visit Thailand and Myanmar?

Thailand gives visa-free entry to many countries. You can stay for 30 days without a visa if you fly in. Land border stays are usually shorter (15 days). We help check your country’s rules.

Myanmar needs a visa for most travelers. The best way is to apply for an e-visa online. It takes 3–5 days. Simple and easy.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months. Print your e-visa and bring it when you travel.

Don’t want to do paperwork? We can help. We send reminders, links, and instructions. We also tell you if you need photos or cash at the border.

Relax—we take care of the visa part so you can focus on fun!

What are the transportation conditions in Thailand and Myanmar?

Thailand is a convenient place to travel. You can travel via plane, bus, rail, or boat. The roads are good. In cities, you can take tuk-tuks, taxis, or Grab (a ride-sharing app). Domestic flights are inexpensive and speedy.

In Myanmar, travel is slower. Some roads are bumpy. But flights between cities like Yangon, Bagan, and Mandalay are smooth. We use safe drivers and air-conditioned vans.

Trains in Myanmar are old but fun for adventure lovers. Boats on Inle Lake are the best way to move around.

We plan all your transport—no stress. We pick you up at the airport, book safe rides, and handle delays. Want to travel slow or fast? We match your style.

How should I exchange currencies in Thailand and Myanmar?

Thailand's currency is Thai Baht (THB). In Myanmar, it is known as Kyat (MMK).

In large cities in Thailand and Myanmar, ATMs are available. They accept foreign credit cards. We recommend withdrawing a little at a time. Because the ATMs impose fees.

You can also change money at banks or airport counters. Don’t use street changers—they may give fake notes.

In Myanmar, some places accept US dollars, but only clean and new bills. No rips or folds! Still, Kyat is better for small shops or taxis.

We help you know how much to carry and where to exchange safely. Need small bills for markets or tips? We prepare those too.

What should I be aware of in terms of cultural etiquette?

Both Thailand and Myanmar are Buddhist countries. People are kind and polite. But there are some local manners to follow.

Take off your shoes before entering temples or someone’s home.
Wear modest clothes at temples—cover shoulders and knees.
Don’t touch people’s heads—it’s a sacred part of the body.
Use both hands or your right hand to give or receive things.
Don’t point feet at people or Buddha images.
Smile often—locals love friendly faces!

In Myanmar, monks are very respected. Let them pass first. Women should not touch monks directly.

We teach you the small things that locals appreciate. With our guides, you’ll always know what to do. Respect brings smiles and makes your trip feel more local and warmer.

Stellar tour company

We had such a truly amazing time in Cambodia and Thailand with the private tour Indochina Tours planned for us..we decided we needed to go to Vietnam next year with the help of Indochina tours.

Ivy Wu who worked with me endlessly to plan the itinerary and especially Helen Chhour, the in-country contact in Cambodia, were simply stellar in their customer service and knowledge of the country and so willing to make changes due to some last minute health issues of my husband, changing our tours to private when needed to accomodate his problems walking and securing better seating and kid glove service on our flights. Simply superb.

We loved the tour guides and drivers in Cambodia and Thailand (especially Chen Suon in Cambodia...he was wonderful and kind in dealing with Eric's issues, but also warm and friendly and knowledgable in so many ways).

Just stellar all round.

Amazing experience in SE Asia

My granddaughter and I traveled to Siem Reep, Cambodia for 3 nights on a private tour. My agents were Ms. Maiky and Ms. Kea. Ms. Maiky recommended some great options and listened to what I wanted. Our hotel was wonderful, the Koulen Central Hotel and we had wonderful breakfasts there included. We witnessed the grandeur of sunrise at Angkor Wat, multiple temples there, a countryside jeep tour, traveled to Tonle Sap Lake and visited a floating village. We inadvertently witnessed a local funeral and two weddings. We received an amazing massage after a full tour day in the nicest spa I have ever been to. Incredibly tranquil and soothing. Our guide, Mr. Socheat, knew everything about the places we visited and answered all our questions. It was a very full itinerary and that is what I asked for.

We then traveled to Thailand for 7 nights. The first 3 nights were in Bangkok at the Amara Bangkok Hotel, very modern and efficient property, also with a full buffet breakfast included. Our guide there was Ms. Ketsara and she was wonderful; very down to earth, lighthearted, and flexible with our itinerary. She came up with things to do that weren't on the original itinerary that we really enjoyed. We took a private motorboat tour on the Chao Praya River and passed temples along the way. Our favorite visit was to the Grand Palace and riding by tuk-tuk to the famous Reclining Buddha. One morning we drove to the train market and the floating market, both highly recommended.

We then flew to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand which had a completely different vibe and some intense spiritual energy. Our hotel there was the Boddhi Serene Boutique Hotel, which, after Bangkok felt like it could use a fresh coat of paint and deep clean, but it was a beautiful, peaceful property. We were there when the 7.7 earthquake hit nearby in Myanmar. The hotel staff was calm and efficient. It was an intense experience and we're grateful we were there at the time instead of almost anywhere else. We spent our days walking into town and checking out the sites.

We then flew to Phuket and stayed at the Burasari Phuket Resort. I didn't schedule full days in either Chiang Mai or Phuket as we were eager for some down time. We did do a full day tour by speedboat to Phi Phi Island and other smaller islands in the area. We snorkeled and swam and it was pleasant but a little too touristy for me. My 20-year-old granddaughter would have loved another day in Phuket and Bangkok.

All our hotels were good and our guides were good. The agents I booked with responded efficiently to any questions I had. I recommend travel with Indo-China Tours. They know the area and respond well to all requests.

Great tour great memories!

I worked with Ivy at Indochina Tour to create a custom itinerary. I sent her the specific sights that I was particularly interested in and ones that I wanted to leave out and she curated that to a trip that we loved.

The guides and hotels were great. The one criticism I had with Indochina Tour is that after we booked the trip, the operations person that was responsible for the tour logistics would not respond to my emails and texts for a long time. This deficiency in communication was frustrating.

Private tour of South East Asia

Our recent 17-day private tour of Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia with Indochina Tours (February 16th - March 4th, 2025) exceeded all expectations! The planning process, starting in September 2024, was smooth and efficient thanks to our dedicated travel consultants, Amara and Kea. They were knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and always quick to respond.

We were consistently impressed by the high caliber of the local guides throughout our journey. Ket (Bangkok), Mia (Chiang Rai/Mai), Nemo (Hanoi/Halong Bay), Vu (Ho Chi Minh City), Paska (Siem Reap/Krati), and Reya (Phnom Penh) were all fantastic. A special mention goes to Paska in Siem Reap and Krati, whose deep knowledge and passion for Cambodian history and culture truly enhanced our experience. We wholeheartedly recommend Indochina Tours for anyone looking for a personalized and unforgettable trip through Southeast Asia.

10 Days for Best of Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam

Having never been to this part of the world, I found Indochina Tours online. The trip planning was easy and seamless with the help of Bliss and Kea as tour planners. They customized this trip for our family of 3 adults and included everything we asked for and more.

Bliss and Kea kept us updated as to travel documents, itinerary and payments. The pay system was secure. We were met at each airport with highly identifiable signs. Local tour guides were fluent in English, friendly and accomodating.

Tour vehicles were clean, comfortable with excellent, safe drivers. Local guides adjusted daily to meet our needs resulting in a wonderful travel experience. We selected 4 star hotels and those provided were above our expectations. Hotel staffs were friendly, met all our expectations and assisted with local transportation and suggestions on our time off of the tour schedule. The food provided by out tour plan was exceptional.

Our highlights of the tour included Siem Reap, The Train Street of Hanoi, Hanoi Bay cruise and local markets and beautiful temples. Be sure your visas have the exact names as they are listed on your passport, birthdays listed with Day, Month, Year, and travel dates covering your time in the countries. If not, you will not be allowed to enter the airport and you are on your own. We would highly recommend Indochina Tour for an unforgetable travel experience.

Amazing custom tour through 3 countries!

Indochina Tour customized a 19 day tour for us for Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and it was simply amazing. They arranged every step of the way (accommodation, tour guides and drivers, flights) for each city visited and all was excellent. In the tour office, Helen was so helpful and connected with us before the trip to confirm all details, and checked in during the trip to see how we were doing. Highly recommend!

Fabulous time in SE Asia!

Indochina Tour was a great experience. Each and every tour guide we had were exceptional on their tour. Accommodations were great. You gave us an upgrade for the cruise in Ha long bay because the hotel room in Hanoi didn’t have a window. Let’s just say that upgrade was amazing! I would not stay on Patong beach in Phuket next time, but rather a quieter, less crowded beach.

A first rate experience put together by a first rate company!

Bliss and Helen put together and managed a great tour for us. We wanted to do some biking, so we had 5 days with some biking in our trip. We had consistently great scheduling and results for pick up and drop off whether it was for day tours or at airports.

All of our guides were very good to outstanding. Bliss did a great job of planning an itinerary that was interesting and fully met our needs. Helen was outstanding at responding to the few questions we had along the way. Her responses were always timely and thorough. We spent 13 days in Vietnam, 4 in Cambodia, 4 in Loos, and 8 in Thailand. We wouldn't change anything about how the trip unfolded.

The costs were very reasonable, especially given that many of the tours and all of the airport transfers were just the two of us. Our accommodations were consistently very good and always included great breakfasts with local and international cuisine options. I can happily highly recommend this great tour company.

Indochina tours - Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar

Indochina tours were excellent, my wife and I started in Bangkok, visited Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, returning to Bangkok, 17 days in all.

There were 9 flights, a train trip, 7 sets of guides and drivers, 8 pick ups from airports or train stations, 4 countries, 3 visas and not a single delay or hitch.

All the guides English was excellent, and the local knowledge fantastic , all this was underpinned by Indochina head office with Sreypov and Kea masterminding the whole trip.

I am an experienced traveller (I have visited 126 countries) and the organisation of this trip is the best that I have ever experienced. Derek & Clare Chapman UK
