What Our Clients Say About Indochina Tours

63-day Fabulous Tour coordinated by Inchina Tour Company

My husband and I booked a fabulous 63-day tour through Vietnam and Laos with Indochina Tours. Our unbelievable travel assistants were Elena Dean and Kea. These two people made what would have been a standard tour into a FABULOUS tour.

They took the time to work with us on what we wanted, changed the itinerary to suit us, made all the arrangements and were able to put together fabulous guides and transportation that covered 2 months of travel. I would absolutely recommend Indochina Tour to others who are looking for a company that really listened to our requests.

This tour included temples, elephant sanctuaries, The Gibbon Experience, boat rides, creative art classes, food exploration, markets, beaches, forests, hiking, ziplining, in-country flights, 19 different hotels, planting rice experience, overnight luxury train accommodations, UNESCO world heritage sites, markets, and walking tours. Without a doubt, this company knows tours!

    Amazing experience

We booked a custom 14 days tour across Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Amara and Helen made the booking experience so seemless and did a great job at crafting our tour. Amazing hotel stays and tours. The perfect combination of sightseeing and relaxing.

Our guides were all fantastic, always ready for us, really knowledgeable and very kind. I would recommend this tour operator. The only hiccup was a scheduling issue with our Halong Bay cruise, which we weren’t aware of until we landed from a 22 hour travel journey .

Although we had to adjust, Helen was very attentive and arranged some complimentary dinner and message for the miscommunication. It did not take away from the experience we had and would use Indochina again.

Incredible, personalized trip to Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore!

Ivy and Helen created a fantastic trip for me and my family to Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore. We can't say enough about how helpful and supportive they were all the way through. Our guides were also wonderful, and we would definitely recommend and use Indochina again.

We weren't sure if we would go through a company to plan our trip, but it made everything so smooth that I am so happy we did! We also looked into other tour companies, but we are so glad we went with Indochina because I can't imagine a better experience. Thank you to Helen, Ivy, and our excellent guides and drivers!

Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam - Indochina tour

My partner and I had an absolutely amazing time on our tour planned with Indochina tour. Ivy and Kea took into account all of our preferences when planning our tour, which made it such a special experience.

In all of the different countries and cities that we visited, we always had a driver and tour guide ready to greet us and take us around to the different attractions. This simplified the experience for us as we did not have to worry about planning and logistics, but instead could just enjoy everything. Our guides and drivers were also so friendly and knowledgeable!

We have already been recommending this tour company to our friends and family as it truly was an incredible experience working with them!

Incredible customised trip - highly recommend

We had Indochina customise a 21 day individual tour for us and I highly recommend it.

A family member actually said to me last night ‘how did you even go find out about some of those places?’ and I simply replied ‘our tour operator’.

We spent 21 days touring Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Our guides were professional, timely, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and just awesome! Hotels were spot on. Great locations, awesome facilities, attentive staff and some were full of character (in the best way). I usually spent so much time researching hotels and am very particular - these were better than I could have chosen.

Drivers were exceptional. Safe and always pressing a lovely cold water bottle into your hands.

A highlight of our trip was a visit to Free The Bears in Luang Prabang Laos. I have travelled quite a lot, and I feel this was one of my favourite ever travel experiences. This was added by our travel consultant Sreypov after I asked for some other experience to be excluded. However, animal ethics and welfare are important to me, so when I saw ‘bear sanctuary’ added I asked which one - and when Sreypov said Free The Bears I was very excited as they are a very ethical organisation. When I said this, Sreypov added Apopo - the mine detection rats - another bucket list for me! So our tour became very much about our interests. I actually wish I’d told Sreypov more about the things we liked to do and customised a bit more - as those customisations were the highlights!

I have so many friends asking me who organised my trip as they were following our adventures on Facebook and said our trip seemed one of the best they had seen.

Sreypov And Kea were both awesome to work with - so responsive to my emails - and there were a few!

They organised everything for us. Now, there are cheaper deals out there - but know this - this was a trip of a lifetime and there were NO HIDDEN EXTRAS. We barely spent a cent.

The lunches that were included were HUGE. A little too much food at times and at good quality restaurants and we got to try a nice variety of local cuisine. We did laugh and say our biggest expense was a cold alcoholic beverage at the end of the day! It was about the only thing not included (though two guides even bought us a surprise iced coconut coffee which was lovely!).

Whilst all internal flights were included (and oh wow, the guides meet you at arrivals, transport you to hotel and even check you in… but then they don’t drop you back at airport, they come in, check you in, and escort you all the way, it’s so lovely!) we did organise our own flights to Vietnam from Australia. And guess what did go wrong - those flights! However, when I was freaking out and worried, I reached out to Kea and she helped me through contacting our airline and fixing issue - even though it wasn’t her responsibility. Very grateful.

So yes, we had the trip of a lifetime and I highly recommend this company. We were very impressed with their care of us and professionalism.

We ran into some friends from home during our trip, they were doing a small group trip with another company and I feel we were having a much better time. It might cost more to have individual trip but that’s the difference between a holiday and a trip of a lifetime.

My tip - do tell them what you enjoy and have them customise the trip for you.

A lifetime experience of visiting the Indochina belt

Indochina yours from Day 1 of contacting them was responsive, truly speaking I don't know when the staff of Indochina tours actually takes hours of a day off.

Kim arranged the itinerary first for us and then passed it over to Helen. Helen has an amazing team looking into each details a family visiting the Indochina belt for the first time would require/need to know.

She was so meticulous in detailing that she would specify the dress codes expected on each day of the tour as we were visiting themes and stupas.

The hotels and the food arranged by Indochina was great, all of their guides were knowledgeable and friendly.

I would surely recommend Indochina tours to all, it's a totally different way to visit the Indochina belt and see it through the eyes of the locals.

FAQs about Planning a Myanmar Trip

Is It Safe to Visit Myanmar Now? What Parts of Myanmar are Safe?

Travel to Myanmar is open, and visitors continue to enjoy the rich culture and pristine nature of the country. The tourist centers with the main attractions in Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan and Inle Lake are great places to visit that are safe for tourists.

Visitors to the country are warmly welcomed by local people. You'll find everyone happy to share their culture with visitors. Maintaining a safe environment for tourism is important for Myanmar, and people will do their best to ensure your stay is trouble-free.

It is still best to exercise caution. Stay up to date on the most recent information and follow recommended travel advisories. It's best to avoid travel in rural areas, and the northern and northwestern provinces.

Is It Easy to Get into Myanmar? How Do I Get to Myanmar?

The easiest way to get to Myanmar is to fly into Yangon. Direct flights are available from major transportation hubs such as Dubai, Seoul, Beijing, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur. Connections from regional capitals like Hanoi, Bangkok, Vientiane, and Phnom Penh are also available.

A limited number of international routes are available to Mandalay. Flights can be booked from Kunming and Bangkok. Domestic flights between Yangon and Mandalay are available daily.

Do I Need a Visa to Visit Myanmar?

Tourist visas are required for international travelers visiting Myanmar. Travelers are recommended to apply through Myanmar's eVisa program. Visas are typically issued within three business days and are valid for a single-entry stay of up to 28 days.

To apply for the E-visa, go to the official government website, and upload a scan of your passport information page and photo. Provide proof of a return ticket and hotel reservation and pay the 50 USD fee. The visa will be emailed to you when completed, and you can show the electronic copy upon arrival at the airport.

What is the Best Time to Visit Myanmar?

Myanmar has a tropical climate with three seasons. From November to February, the weather is cooler and dry. Average temperatures in Mandalay are between 23°C and 26°C, with almost no rain at all. Planning outdoor activities is easy, and conditions are ideal for hiking or exploring the cities.

Some travelers prefer the shoulder season when fewer tourists are visiting. Dry conditions continue through March and April, but it starts to get hot. Yangon sees temperatures in the high 30s. October is still relatively cool, averaging 28°C, but there is some lingering rain from the monsoon season.

How Many Days Are Enough for a Myanmar Tour?

Plan on 6 to 12 days for a tour of Myanmar. The best highlights to see are in Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, and Inle Lake, so you'll need a couple of days in each place.

Start in Yangon with sites like Shwedagon Pagoda and a trip to Kandawgyi Nature Park. Then, fly to Bagan to see the city's Buddhist ruins and beautiful lacquerware in the rural village of Phwasaw and Minanthu.

Mandalay needs in-depth exploration. Visit Atumashi Monastery and U Bein Bridge and see the traditional bronze casting and woodcarving workshops. From Mandalay, you can make the journey to Inle Lake and bask in the pristine environment and tranquil pagodas.

Is Myanmar Cheap to Visit Now? How Much Does a Trip Cost?

Currently, traveling to Myanmar is more affordable than it has been in the past, due to a decrease in tourism resulting from the ongoing civil conflict.

I believe this is the best time to visit Myanmar, as the reduced number of tourists offers a unique opportunity to experience the country in a more intimate and authentic way.

However, it’s important to travel with a local travel agency, like ours, to ensure a safe and well-organized experience.

Budget around 30-50 USD per day for an average trip in Myanmar. Food, transportation, and tourist attractions are very affordable in Myanmar, but hotel prices can raise the total cost.

Comfortable hotels can be found between 25 and 60 USD per night. The quality can vary a lot, so check online reviews before booking.

Street food and dining in local restaurants cost around 1-5 USD per person. The average taxi fare around Yangon is usually 2-3 USD.

How Much is $100 in Myanmar Currency? Can I Use US Dollars?

Myanmar's currency is the Kyat (MMK). At recent exchange rates, 100 USD can be exchanged for 209,865 MMK. Some establishments in tourist areas will accept USD, but it is recommended to use local currency.

Exchange rates given at restaurants and hotels are not always favorable. It is better to find the best rate at a bank or exchange counter.

How to Keep Safe when Visiting Myanmar?

Myanmar's tourist centers are safe places.

Crime is minimal, limited to opportunistic pottery crimes like pickpocketing and bag snatching. Keep an eye on your belongings, and exercise a general level of caution.

The ongoing troubles in the country are unpredictable but mostly affecting rural areas. Tourist attractions remain open and safe to visit. Like anywhere else, avoid isolated or unlit areas at night.

It's best to fly between different cities rather than traveling overland. Staying up to date with the local situation can keep you informed on places to avoid, but flying will better ensure you remain in safe areas.

What to Wear when visiting Myanmar?

Local culture is conservative. You won't see many people in shorts or sleeveless tops, and it's best to follow along. The longyi is preferred by both men and women. It's a single piece of cloth wrapped around the lower body like a skirt. Perfectly adapted for the climate, it will keep you cool.

Modest clothing is essential when visiting temples and religious sites. Clothing must cover your knees and shoulders. Hats, shoes, and socks must be removed before entering.

Dos and Dont's When Visiting Myanmar

Do smile and say hello, learn some basic phrases in the local language for greeting and thanking people.
Do be respectful of local traditions, people in Myanmar are proud of their traditional practices.
Do ask for permission before taking people's photos, and don't interrupt anyone engaged in meditation or prayer.
Do support local small businesses like restaurants, spas, and taxis.
Don't ask people about the current political situation.
Don't buy antiques. Support Myanmar's cultural heritage by buying arts and crafts.
Don't touch anyone on the head, and women should avoid touching monks in any way.
Don't engage in any public displays of affection.

Can I Travel to Myanmar Independently? Or Should I Travel with a Local Agency?

Independent travel is allowed in Myanmar. Do your research first and plan a clear itinerary, but once you're there, you should have little trouble making arrangements. Taxis and motorcycles can take you around in the cities, and flying between different destinations is straightforward.

Booking travel through a local agency is recommended, however. The situation in Myanmar is complex, and a local guide will be up to date on the latest travel conditions. Local expertise also helps for a smoother, and more immersive experience. Guides can show you the hidden gems and provide insight, background, and history of the places you visit.
